Gifting a story: a note for grandparents

By Mara Quinn · February 10, 2026 · 1 min read

Grandparents often tell us the same thing: they have run out of ideas for gifts the grandchildren will actually keep. The toys break or get outgrown. The clothes are forgotten by spring. They want something with a little more staying power.

Why a video holds up

A personalized story does a few things a toy cannot. It has the child's name in it, so it cannot be passed along to a cousin. It gets watched at bedtime, so it becomes part of a daily routine. And it stays saved for years, ready to play, which means it can carry your name as the giver for a long time.

You do not need many details

Some grandparents worry they do not know enough to order one. You know more than you think. The child's name, the color of their hair, the animal they are obsessed with this year. That is plenty. If you are unsure, a quick call to the parents fills in the rest.

A small idea that means a lot

If you want to make it more personal, you can add a short dedication at the start. A single warm line is enough:

For Eliza, who asks the best questions. Love, Grandpa.

Years later, that line is often the part a grown child treasures most. It is your voice, in their story, theirs to keep.

When it arrives

A video like this tends to become a fixture. The parents play it, then the child asks for it, then it gets watched again. You gave them a story, and quietly, you gave them a moment they return to. That is a fine thing to be remembered for.
